Bulldog Women's Soccer Falls To Northern Michigan In Weekend Opener

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer squad fell to the Northern Michigan Wildcats by a 4-1 score on Friday (Oct. 18) at the FSU Soccer Field.

The Bulldogs began a weekend homestand with a pivotal Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchup against the Wildcats as both squads entered the tilt with a single league setback this year.

However, Northern Michigan jumped in front in the opening half and earned the road triumph with a pair of goals in each half of play.

NMU's Justina L'Esperance scored three times in the decision, including each of NMU's first-half goals. Her first came at 26:09 off an assist from Hannah Kastamo with the second only five minutes later on a setup from Alyse Daavettila at 31:17 of the opening period.

The Wildcats later added a goal from Brooke Pietila, which was her sixth of the year, at 68:00 of the second half with an assist to L'Esperance. Later, L'Esperance tallied her ninth goal of the campaign with Caitlyn Trombley picking up an assist at 69:25 of the final period.

The Bulldogs finally got on the board at 89:50 when Autumn Burns registered her third goal of the season on a play near the net with an assist credited to junior Reese Carmody.

Overall, NMU held a 21-9 margin in total shots and a 10-2 edge in shots on goal for the afternoon. NMU had 10 fouls and the Bulldogs finished with six overall. The Wildcats also held a slim 6-3 margin in corner kick chances.

Ferris State will host Michigan Tech to wrap up the weekend on Sunday (Oct. 20) starting at 1 p.m. (ET) at the Bulldog Soccer Field.
