Ferris State Soccer Suffers 2-0 Home Setback Against Grand Valley State

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team fell 2-0 against Grand Valley State University at home Sunday (Oct. 27) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Bulldogs (6-4-4, 5-3-2 GLIAC) are tied in third place with Davenport University in the GLIAC after Sunday's defeat. Both squads have 17 points with four games remaining for Ferris State and three for Davenport. Grand Valley is in second place with 23 points, and Northern Michigan leads the conference with 25 points.

In Sunday's game, Morgan Fillion was the starting goalkeeper for the Bulldogs. She recorded four saves in the defeat. Grand Valley's Cailynn Junk earned the victory and made two saves in the shutout for the Lakers.

GVSU scored one goal in each half, starting with Taylor Reid's first of the year at 16:48. Ryann Fetty earned the assist, giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead that they took into halftime.

In the second half, at 79:00, Kendall Aikens headed a ball past Fillion off a pass from Alli French to give Grand Valley a 2-0 lead late in the game. The Bulldogs were unable to mount a comeback and suffered their third home defeat of the year.

For the game, the Bulldogs had two shots on goal, five corner kicks and 10 fouls. Grand Valley had six shots on goal, five corner kicks and 12 fouls.

Individually, Bella Vallone and Katherine Welch had the shots on goal for the Bulldogs. Welch led the way with five total shot attempts in 90 minutes of action. Brinley Bell, Kacy Lauer and Aikens each received a yellow card in the game. 

Ferris State will take on Saginaw Valley State on the road Friday (Nov. 1) at 1 p.m. (ET) before returning home for their final three regular season games. Roosevelt will come to Big Rapids Sunday (Nov. 3) for a 1 p.m. (ET) kickoff at the Bulldog Soccer Field. Previously this year, the Bulldogs defeated Roosevelt on the road 5-2 in the first ever meeting between the two squads Sept. 20.
