Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers Thursday (Nov. 7) at the Bulldog Soccer Field in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.
The Bulldogs (7-6-4, 6-5-2 GLIAC) played in their penultimate regular season game Thursday and will wrap up their regular season Saturday (Nov. 9) at home against Purdue Northwest.
In Thursday's defeat, the Rangers scored two goals in the first half. Madi Kasianowicz put UWP on the board with her first goal of the year at 4:59. Emily Mikkelson sent a pass into the box that was tipped by Chloe Jarosz back to Kasianowicz for the finish. Both Mikkelson and Jarosz were credited with assists on the play.
The Rangers tacked on a second goal at 41:23, courtesy of Kayden's Schmidt's first goal. Mikkelson also assisted Schmidt's goal that gave UWP a 2-0 lead at the half.
FSU got its lone goal of the afternoon at 83:29 off a corner kick. Katherine Welch sent the ball into the back of the box where Bella Vallone headed it back towards Haley Buckman right in front of the goal line. Buckman then headed it past UWP's goalkeeper, Lola Minic, for her fifth goal of the season, which is tied with Welch for the team lead. Vallone collected her first assist this year.
FSU was unable to tie the game and ultimately suffered a loss in the contest. Lauren Kubacki took the loss for Ferris State in 90 minutes of play, making two saves and allowing two goals.
Minic recorded her fifth victory of the season, stopping seven shots and allowing one goal. Parkside's Nadiia Ivanchenko had a yellow card, and no Ranger attempted more than one shot on goal.
The Bulldogs got three shots on goal from Isabella Baron and two from Annie Hartley. Brinley Bell was yellow carded, and Welch led the squad with four total shot attempts in 90 minutes. Vallone and Avery Sikorski also each played the full 90 mintues for FSU.
