Bulldog Soccer Falls to Davenport in GLIAC Quarterfinal

Big Rapids, - Mich. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to Davenport University Tuesday (Nov. 12) in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Quarterfinal at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

Ferris State finished its season 8-7-4 (7-6-2 GLIAC) overall after Tuesday's setback to the Panthers. Davenport will advance to the GLIAC Semifinals and travel to Marquette to play top-seeded Northern Michigan.

Davenport scored the lone goal of the game at 68:16, courtesy of Haley Diekevers' sixth goal of the season. Nadia Buist had an assist on the game's only goal.

FSU had 25 total shot attempts in the game, 12 of which were on target. The Bulldogs fired nine shots on goal in the first half, but DU goalkeeper Elizabeth Wolter stopped them all, finishing the afternoon with 12 saves.

Morgan Fillion got the starting nod at goalkeeper for FSU, recording three saves on four shots faced. She finished her freshman season with a 6-4-2 record that included five shutout victories.

As a team, the Bulldogs had six corner kick opportunities and Davenport had only one. Both teams committed five fouls, and DU attempted 15 total shots on goal.

Ferris State was led by Emerson Lukomski with four shots on goal. Bella Vallone had two and no other player recorded more than one.

Vallone, Natalia Leavens, Ella Wolf, Annie Hartley and Brinley Bell each played all 90 minutes for the Bulldogs.

Diekevers led Davenport with two shots on goal. Julia Tamasy and Taylor Meadows had the other two Panther shots on frame.

Fifth-year seniors Brinley Bell, Lindsay Cole and Allison McMahon each played their final game as Bulldogs, concluding illustrious careers highlighted by their 2022 appearance in the NCAA DII Final Four. Bell had career bests in points (11), goals (3) and assists (5) this season, finishing second on the squad in scoring.

With the 2024 season coming to a close, the Bulldogs will now turn their focus to the offseason and begin preparations for the 2025 campaign.
