Bulldog Soccer Bounces Back with Big Road Win Over GLIAC Leader Parkside

Kenosha, Wisc. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team earned a big 1-0 road win over the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) leader, Wisconsin Parkside, on Sunday (Oct. 19).

The Bulldogs (4-4-5, 4-3-2 GLIAC) had previously suffered a defeat at Purdue Northwest Friday (Oct. 17) and responded with a win Sunday. Parkside (6-5-2, 6-2-1GLIAC) entered the afternoon atop the GLIAC standings with Ferris State in fourth place.

Natalia Leavens scored her second game-winning goal of the season in FSU's victory while goalkeeper Korinne Ihrke tallied her fourth shutout this year with a five-save effort.

Neither team scored in the first half of play. UWP had six corner kicks in the first 45 minutes compared to zero for Ferris State.

Leavens scored at 59:37 off a corner kick that Anna Thelen placed in the box. Leavens got her right foot on the ball for a shot past Parkside's goalkeeper, Tristen Cross. Thelen collected her second assist of the year on Leavens's second goal.

The Rangers had one shot on goal in the entire second half coming at 63:16. Ihrke made the save and preserved her shutout.

For the game, both teams had five shots on goal. The Rangers attempted seven corner kicks and the Bulldogs had two. FSU was whistled for 16 fouls compared to six for UWP.

Leavens led the team with two shots on goal while Grace Sampson, Katherine Welch and Emerson Lukomski each had one. Leavens, Thelen, Bella Vallone, Ella Wolf and Isabella Baron played 90 minutes.

Ferris State will return home for two GLIAC games next weekend. First, Ferris State will host Michigan Tech on Friday (Oct. 24) at 1 p.m. (ET) at the Bulldog Soccer Field. Live coverage will be provided on FloCollege.
