This Week In Bulldog Athletics - March 5, 2024

 

The nation's 10th-ranked Ferris State University women's basketball squad will open GLIAC Tournament play at home on Wednesday night as the #2 seed against Saginaw Valley State with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. (ET). The league tourney semifinals and finals are set for Saturday & Sunday at the site of the highest seed. FSU is coming off back-to-back home wins over Parkside and Purdue Northwest. Senior Chloe Idoni was chosen as both the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week and the D2CIDA National Player of the Week. The Bulldogs are currently ranked third in the Midwest Region and NCAA Tournament selections will be announced on Sunday night.

 

The Bulldog men's basketball team hosts Parkside in the GLIAC Tourney Quarterfinals on Wednesday evening starting at 7:30 p.m.  (ET). The Bulldogs are the #3 seed overall and the league tourney semifinals and finals are set for Saturday and Sunday at the site of the highest remaining seed. FSU defeated Parkside 82-79 this past Thursday night at home and posted a decisive win over Purdue Northwest on Saturday. The Bulldogs' Dolapo Olayinka was chosen as the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. FSU is presently seventh in the Midwest Regional Rankings and the official NCAA Tourney selections will be announced Sunday night.

 

The Bulldog men's ice hockey team will open its 40th all-time postseason playoff appearance this weekend with a best-of-three first round CCHA Playoff series at top-seeded Bemidji State. The series' takes place Friday thru Sunday with the winner moving on to the semifinal round. Ferris State fell to Lake Superior State 4-1 in its regular-season finale this past Friday.

 

The Bulldog Softball team opened up its trip to Florida and the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games by winning three of its first four contests on Sunday and Monday, including a day one sweep before a split against Walsh in Monday competition. The Bulldogs are slated to face Cedarville in regional play on Tuesday before a day off. FSU then wraps up the trip with two games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday near Orlando. The home opener is Tuesday, March 19, against Lewis in Big Rapids.

 

The Bulldog men's tennis team fell to NCAA Division I Belmont by a 5-2 score on Monday in Orlando before dropping a 5-1 decision on Tuesday at Flagler (Fla.) in the Sunshine State. Meanwhile, the women's team opened its trip with a 4-1 setback to Flagler. Both teams will next visit Saint Leo (Fla.) on Thursday before closing the trip with neutral site matches in Florida against regional foe Rockhurst (Mo.) on Saturday.

 

Both the Ferris State men's and women's golf teams will open spring action by taking part in the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Orange Park, Fla.
