Victory Keeps FSU Unbeaten In GLIAC Action

Columbus, Ohio - The Ferris State University men's basketball team picked up its fourth consecutive win and remained unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a 69-60 road victory at Ohio Dominican on Saturday (Dec. 3) afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.

FSU took a commanding 40-23 halftime advantage, but was outscored 37-29 by the host Panthers in the second half. ODU trimmed the lead down to seven points late in the game but could get no closer as the Bulldogs held on for their first-ever win at ODU's Alumni Hall in their first trip to Columbus.

With the victory, Ferris State improved to 4-3 overall and the defending GLIAC North Division champions are now 2-0 in conference play.  Saturday's win gave the Bulldogs a sweep of their two-game road trip to Ohio following Thursday's triumph at Tiffin.

Junior guard Kenny Brown (Farmington Hills/Harrison) led the Bulldogs with 16 points in the contest while junior forward Daniel Sutherlin (Detroit/Renaissance) tallied his third-straight double-double showing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior guard Dontae Molden (Detroit/Pershing) chipped in 12 points for FSU while senior forward Jerrell Sanders (Grand Rapids/Creston) added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.  He also had a team-high three assists for FSU.

Ferris State shot 42.3% from the field and hit seven-of-17 (41.2%) three-pointers in addition to 18-of-25 (72%) free throws.  FSU also forced 17 turnovers defensively and limited ODU to only 41.7% shooting, including just 34.6% in the first frame.

Ohio Dominican had three players reach double-figure scoring and was led by Zack Joseph's 13 points.  Aaron Gibbs recorded 11 points and 10 boards in a double-double while Morgan Jones totaled 10 points in the setback.

The Panthers made only two-of-eight (25%) three's and were 18-of-22 (81.8%) at the charity stripe.

Ferris State held a decisive 41-24 rebounding advantage and came down with 13 offensive caroms to only four for the Panthers, who are in their second year as a GLIAC member.  That helped FSU own a 13-2 margin in second chance production.

The Bulldogs finished with 12 steals, 11 assists and three blocked shots with Ohio Dominican netting 10 steals, six assists and a single block.  FSU had 17 turnovers with 13 coming in the second half.

FSU never trailed in the contest after scoring the first 11 points of the game, but was outscored 30-22 in the paint and 23-19 in points off turovers.  ODU's bench also contributed 23 points compared to only 11 for the Bulldog reserves.  However, Ferris State held a commanding 18-6 edge in fast break scoring.

The win improved FSU's all-time mark to 2-0 against the Panthers following a home win in the first-ever matchup at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids a year ago.

The Bulldogs will host Alma in non-league play on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Wink Arena.  Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (ET).

FSU will then return to conference action next Saturday, Dec. 10, at Northwood with the game slated for a 6 p.m. (ET) start inside the Bennett Sports Center at Midland, Mich.
