Ferris State Drops GLIAC Matchup To Wayne State In The Motor City

Detroit, Mich. - A strong second half led Wayne State to a 79-62 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win over Ferris State in men's basketball action on Thursday (Jan. 30) night at the Matthaei Complex in Detroit.

The Bulldogs battled the Warriors nearly even in the opening half of play as WSU owned only a slim 36-35 edge at halftime.

However, in the second half, Wayne State surged in front and outscored the Bulldogs 43-27 over the final 20 minutes to pick up the victory. 

The lead between the two teams changed hands 10 times as FSU took its final advantage early in the second half. But, the Warriors limited Ferris State to only eight-of-27 (29.6%) field goal shooting in the final frame to earn the triumph.

Senior Bryan Coleman paved the way for the Warriors as he led all scorers with a game-high 20 points. He also had five rebounds and blocked three shots to help the Wayne State cause.

Along with Coleman, Wayne State received 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench from Jamar Ragland with Gerald Williams-Taylor netting 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in a double-double showing.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs were led by sophomore center Jared Stolicker, who totaled 15 points on the night. Sophomore guard Jibreel Jackson added 12 points off the bench with junior guard Drew Lehman totaling nine points and six boards. Senior forward Raymoan McAfee garnered nine points and eight rebounds on the FSU side.

Wayne State connected on 50.8% of its field goals for the game and was six-of-nine (66.7%) beyond the arc along with 13-of-19 (68.4%) at the free throw line.

The Bulldogs finished with a 36.8% shooting figure and made six-of-19 (31.6%) three's in addition to 14-of-18 (77.6%) free throws.

The Warriors owned an edge on the glass as they pulled down 42 rebounds in the game to 31 for the Bulldogs and came up with 13 offensive boards to 11 for Ferris State. 

WSU also posted a decisive 15-4 margin in points off turnovers despite the fact FSU had only one more miscue. Ferris State finished with 13 turnovers to 12 for the Warriors.

Wayne State's Clark Bishop dished out a game-high six assists as the Warriors totaled 21 on the night to 14 for the Bulldogs. Lehman had four helpers in leading FSU. 

Ferris State posted seven steals and four blocked shots compared to five steals and six blocks by the Warriors, who moved to 9-7 overall and 7-6 in the league standings.

The contest came on the heels of two close matchups between the two teams a year ago with each winning on its home floor. They will meet again later this season on Feb. 20 in Big Rapids.

Ferris State returns home to host Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Feb. 1) afternoon inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. (ET).

The Bulldogs will then visit West Michigan rival Grand Valley State on Monday (Feb. 3) evening for a 8 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Allendale.
