Ferris State's Drew Lehman Earns All-GLIAC Accolades This Season

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University junior guard Drew Lehman (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) was recognized Tuesday (March 4) as an All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Second Team choice after leading the Bulldog men's basketball squad in scoring this past season.
Lehman was one of 10 players from the 16 conference schools chosen to the All-GLIAC Second Team. A total of 10 others attained first-team status with 10 more named to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team.
A three-year letterwinner, Lehman earned All-GLIAC laurels for the first time this year. He averaged a team-high 14 points per game while starting all 26 games for first-year head coach Andy Bronkema. In addition, he led the team with 41 three-pointers and ranked second overall with 81 assists and 21 steals. His 97 total rebounds was also fourth-best on the squad.
Lehman shot 41.4% (41-99) from three-point range on the year and converted 129-of-279 (.462) field goals for the season along with 65-of-86 (.756) free throws. He ranked among the conference leaders in minutes played, three-pointers and scoring this campaign.
This season, Lehman scored in double-figures in 22 of 26 games and tallied 20 points or more in five contests, including three of his final six outings. His play down the stretch helped FSU win three of its last four games and he nearly posted a triple-double in last Thursday's (Feb. 27) narrow 74-73 overtime setback to rival Grand Valley State by scoring 21 points with eight rebounds and eight assists.
Previously, Lehman averaged 13.1 points and 2.4 assists per game as a sophomore in 2012-13 after originally scoring six points per contest in helping FSU to a GLIAC North Division Championship his freshman season in 2011-12.
In addition to the all-conference teams, the league's head coaches chose Findlay senior Greg Kahlig as the 2014 GLIAC Player of the Year while Saginaw Valley State's C.J. Turnage earned Freshman of the Year accolades and head coach Steve Hettinga of Lake Superior State received Coach of the Year honors.
Ferris State won four of its final seven outings this season and dropped two others in the final stretch by three points or less. This season marked the 12th consecutive year in which FSU has finished with at least 10 victories overall as the Bulldogs reached the double-digit mark with Saturday's (March 1) 78-66 league home win over Saginaw Valley State in the season finale.
With the exception of senior forward Raymoan McAfee, the remainder of the Bulldogs' squad is eligible to return next season, including the other eight of the nine FSU players who saw action in the final game of the year.
