Ferris State Wins 15th-Straight Game By Pulling Away For Win At Wayne State

Detroit, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball team shook a slow start to win its 15th consecutive game, this time on the road over Wayne State by the final line of 82-65 on Saturday (Feb. 4) at the Matthaei Center.

The 15-straight wins ties for the second-longest streak in school history behind the school-best 18 in a row the Bulldogs won in 1988-89. FSU also won 15 consecutive games two seasons ago.

Ferris State junior guard Drew Cushingberry led the way with 21 points, shooting 8-12 from the field as well as 3-5 from beyond the arc and adding a team-best five assists, while junior guard Noah King put up 13 of his own.

The Warriors got out to a 12-2 lead in the opening 10 minutes of play, but the Bulldogs fought their way ahead to a 39-31 lead at the halfway point.

Ferris State capped the first half shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 7-16 for a 43.8 percentage from beyond the arc.
Wayne State hit just two three point shots and shot 37.8 percent in the first half.

Nine of 10 Bulldogs that played scored and registered at least two points in the first half, as Ferris State's balanced attack outweighed Wayne State's Chuck Key, who had 14 points in the opening frame.

Senior guard Quentin Ruff added 11 points and was the only other Bulldog in double figures.

The Bulldogs finished the day shooting 45.5 percent, while the Warriors struggled from the floor shooting 35.3 percent on the evening.

Wayne State's Key had a game-high 22 points, while Michael Lewis added 11.

Ferris State won the rebound battle 47-41 for the game, with junior forward Zach Hankins snatching seven boards. Key and Lewis each had 10 for Wayne State.

The Bulldogs improved to 20-3 with their 15th consecutive victory as well as 14-2 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conferece (GLIAC) play.

Ferris State returns to Big Rapids for four of their last five regular season games, starting on Thursday, (Feb. 9) as they take on the Lake Superior State Lakers for an 8 p.m. EST tip-off at Wink Arena.
