Ferris State Basketball Squads Visit Purdue Northwest and Parkside This Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball squads begin their final three-game regular season stretch on the road this week as the Bulldogs play a pair of key Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheaders.

The Bulldogs will first visit Purdue Northwest on Thursday (Feb. 21) for an evening twinbill in Hammond, Ind., starting with the women's game at 6 p.m. (ET) and the men's game at approximately 8 p.m. (ET).

Then, on Saturday (Feb. 23), FSU heads to Wisconsin to battle Parkside in a GLIAC doubleheader in Kenosha. The women's game will get underway at 2 p.m. (ET) with the men's contest to follow at 4 p.m. (ET).

Both games will be aired live on local flagship station Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network with pregame coverage beginning a half-hour prior to the opening contest. Live internet statistics and a live video webcast will also be offered by each opponent with complete coverage links available at FerrisStateBulldogs.com.

The Ferris State men's squad enters the week atop the GLIAC North Division standings as the Bulldogs are presently 19-9 overall and 11-6 in league play to date this year. FSU is also third overall in the conference standings and needs to finish in the top four to secure an opening-round home contest for the upcoming GLIAC Tournament.

Meanwhile, Purdue Northwest owns a 7-18 mark to date and is 3-14 in the GLIAC entering Thursday's matchup while Parkside is one-game behind FSU in the division with a 15-9 overall slate and a 10-7 league record. The Rangers play host to Lake Superior State on Thursday before entertaining the Bulldogs.

The Bulldog women are currently in a four-way tie for fifth place in the GLIAC overall and need a single win to officially clinch a spot in the conference tournament. FSU is third in the North Division at 11-12 overall and 8-9 in league play. Purdue Northwest holds a 3-20 mark and is 1-16 in conference action with Parkside currently at 10-13 overall and also tied for third with FSU in the division at 8-9 in the GLIAC.

Earlier this year, both Ferris State teams swept the league's two newest schools with the Bulldog men topping the Pride 99-77 and Parkside 98-81 at Jim Wink Arena in January. The women beat Purdue Northwest 94-78 at home and then handled the Rangers 74-60 in the first matchups of the year.

After this week's trip, both FSU squads will then wrap up league regular-season play on the road next Thursday (Feb. 28) evening at Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie.

The 2019 GLIAC Tournament begins with the top four teams hosting quarterfinal-round action on Tuesday, March 5. The top remaining seed will then host the GLIAC Semifinals and Finals on Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10.
