BUZZER BEATER! Ferris State Beats Lewis In Romeoville On Shot As Time Expires

Big Rapids, Mich. - Senior guard Jack Ammerman hit a buzzer beater as time expired to lift the nationally seventh-ranked Ferris State University men's basketball squad to a thrilling 89-87 road win over the Lewis Flyers at Neil Carey Arena in Romeoville, Ill.

The Bulldogs fought back from a seven-point halftime deficit with a quick second-half start and the game went back and forth down the stretch. Lewis tied up the game inside of 30 seconds to play, but missed a go-ahead opportunity on a potential three-point play, giving FSU the final possession.

Ferris State ran the clock down for a final offensive set and found Ammerman near the free throw line for a long jumper off a screen that hit the rim, bounced up and dropped back thru as the horn sounded.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 5-1 overall this season. The victory was only FSU's third-ever in Romeoville.

Ammerman finished with a team-high tying 16 points for the Bulldogs as did senior Dolapo Olayinka. The Bulldogs also got 12 points off the bench from senior Vejas Grazulis along with 11 points each from senior Ben Davidson and junior Reece Hazelton. Senior Amari Lee also reached double-figures with 10 points.

FSU shot 47.6% from the field and went 10-of-18 (55.6%) from long range while making 19-of-24 (79.2%) free throws. Lewis finished shooting 50% from the field and made nine-of-20 (45%) long range tries along with 24-of-29 (82.8%) free throws.

The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 36-30 and got 39 points off the bench compared to 24 for the Lewis reserves. Ferris State finished with 12 offensive boards and posted a slim 11-10 margin in second chance production.

Overall, the game featured 11 lead changes and was tied nine times.

Beau Frericks led Lewis with 19 points and Ray Renfro chipped in 18 points.

The Bulldogs will host Grace Christian on Saturday (Dec. 2) at 3 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena in their final contest prior to the start of GLIAC play next week.
