First Day Complete At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team wrapped up first day action in the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Sunday (Oct. 2).

The event is being held at the Eagle Eye Golf Course at Hawk Hollow in Bath, Mich.

Currently, Ferris State is seventh overall following the opening round with a 313 team score.  All participants were slated to play two rounds on Sunday, but a morning frost delay shortened the day and not all participants were able to conclude the second round.

The Bulldogs will finish their second round and play the third and final round on Monday (Oct. 3) at Eagle Eye.

Grand Valley State held the first round lead with a 290 team score and the individual leaderboard featured a first place tie between GVSU's Chris Cunningham and Jack Rider as both were at even par thru 12 holes of the second round when play was stopped on Sunday.

Sophomore Trent Davison currently leads the Bulldogs as he is tied for 15th place at six-over par and was able to complete the second round.  He posted scores of 73 and 77 in the two rounds on Sunday.

The 2011 GLIAC Championships consist of 54 holes of competition and the low four of five scores will count towards the respective team score for each squad.  Ferris State is serving as this year's host institution for the event at Eagle Eye.

Ferris State is the defending GLIAC men's golf champion as the Bulldogs defeated Wayne State a year ago in the event held at the Grosse Ile (Mich.) Golf and Country Club course.

Last year's conference crown represented the 19th in the program's history and the Bulldogs' first since the 2004-05 season.
