Ferris State Men's Golf Sits In First Place After Day One At Midwest Region Preview

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team sits in first place overall after the opening two rounds of play at the Midwest Region Preview on Monday (Sept. 30) in St. Joseph, Mo.

The Bulldogs shot even par for the opening 36 holes of competition, notching an eight-over 292 stroke total in round one before coming back to shoot eight-under par with a 276 in the second round. Overall, Ferris State holds a 568 total and is three shots ahead of second-place Missouri-St. Louis.

The event is taking place at the St. Joseph Country Club with a total of 17 squads taking part in the 54-hole event.

FSU's Sam Havey and Kole Putnam are both presently tied for second on the leaderboard individually with three-under 139 scores after two rounds of action. Havey shot a 71 in the opening round followed by a 68 in round two while Putnam carded a 73 in the first round and fired a 66 in the second round. Both are two shots behind leader Isaac To of Missouri S&T.

The Bulldogs' McCoy Biagioli shot a 143 on day one in the opening two rounds and is tied for 10th overall. He posted a 73 in the first round and a 70 in the second round on Monday.

Ferris State's Zach Koerner came in tied for 25th overall, shooting a 75 in the opening round followed by a 72 in the second round for a 147 total thru the first 36 holes.

Finally, Drayton Cleaver posted a 149 total for the two rounds and is tied for 36th overall going into the last round. Cleaver notched a 77 in the first round and a 72 in the second round of play.

FSU's Shayne Beaufait competed as an individual and is presently tied for 56th with a 152 score. He shot a first-round 79 before coming back with a 73 total in the second round.

Final round play takes place on Tuesday (Oct. 1) in St. Joseph.
