Ferris State Men's Golf Takes 12th Place At Highly-Competitive Event In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf squad opened up spring semester action on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 10-11, finishing 12th overall at The Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate event held in St. Augustine, Fla.

The Bulldogs recorded a 892 team score for the three rounds of competition in the tournament, which featured some of the nation's top squads and was hosted by Lincoln Memorial University at St. Johns Golf Club.

Overall, the 19 competing teams included eight schools ranked among the nation's top 44 overall, including FSU, which is presently tabbed 31st in the rankings. Six top 25 teams took part with four of the nation's top 11 squads featured.

Host and seventh-ranked Lincoln Memorial won the event with an 850 team figure while 23rd-ranekd Wingate tied for second along with 10th-ranked Columbus State at 855 overall.

A majority of the competing teams were from Florida, Georgia or Tennessee and the Bulldogs were the only squad north of Tennessee competing in the event. FSU shot team scores of 298 and 298 followed by a 301 in the final round.

FSU's McCoy Biagioli tied for 17th overall with a two-over par 218 figure for the three rounds, notching a 73 in round one with a 76 in round two and a 69 in the final round.

Meanwhile, Sam Havey tied for 44th in the field at 223 for the tournament, carding a first-round 75 followed by back-to-back 74 scores.

Ferris State's Zach Koerner and Kole Putnam both shot 226 figures and tied for 57th in the field. Koerner recorded scores of 72, 74 and 80 while Putnam tallied marks of 73, 74 and 79 overall.

The Bulldogs' Drayton Cleaver closed out the lineup with a 239 score for 92nd place, shooting a 83 in round one before coming back with a 77 in round two and a 79 in the third round.

FSU's Shayne Beaufait also competed as an individual and finished 100th overall with a 263, posting scores of 87, 85 and 91 in the first event of the spring.
