
Bulldog Men's Golf Climbs Leaderboard To Finish Third At Ken Partridge Invitational
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team made a big charge and finished in third place overall as play wrapped up on Tuesday at the Ken Partridge Invitational held in Noblesville, Ind.
The Bulldogs started the three-day tournament in a share of 11th place overall on Sunday at the Purgatory Golf Club, but climbed eight spots up the leaderboard over the final two days to come in third with a 869 team figure in the 54 holes of action.
After shooting a first-round 295 total, the Bulldogs responded with a 289 figure on Monday in the second day of play and closed the event with a final-round 285 total on Tuesday in the event hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
The Bulldogs finished only 10 strokes out of first place as Missouri S&T won the event with a 859 total followed by Wayne State, which claimed runner-up honors with a 866. FSU placed one shot ahead of Grand Valley State as the Lakers carded a 870 total and sat fourth behind the Bulldogs in the large field of 20 teams.
FSU was led by Kole Putnam, who placed seventh overall with a 213 total. He shot rounds of 71, 70 and 72 in a strong three days of competition.
The Bulldogs' Zach Koerner came in tied for 14th with a 217 total, notching scores of 74 in round one, 73 in round two and 70 in round three.
Meanwhile, McCoy Biagioli finished tied for 19th at 218 overall. The Bulldog competitor posted a 74 in the opening round followed by a 73 in the second round and a 71 in the final round.
Drayton Cleaver came in tied for 56th for Ferris State, posting a 225 figure for the three rounds. He shot a 76 in both the first and third rounds to go with a 73 in the middle round on Monday.
Also, Sam Havey wound up tied for 87th on the leaderboard at 230 overall, firing scores of 78 in round one to go with a 80 in round two and a 72 in the final round.
FSU's Ben Miller competed as an individual and placed tied for 61st at 226 for the tourney, posting scores of 74, 77 and 75 from the first to the third rounds, respectively.
The Bulldogs will head to the GLIAC Championships set for April 18-20 in Augusta, Mich.
