Bio

The Ferris State University men's and women's golf programs have announced the appointment of Kosta Ramirez as the school's new assistant coach, in an announcement made by FSU head coach Sam Stark.

Ramirez currently serves as a PGA Director of Instruction at The Mines Golf Club and Pilgrim's Run Golf Club. He has been a member of the PGA of America since 2015 and has been on the professional staff of several of the top facilities in the country, including Treetops Resort, Kent Country Club, Oakland Hills Country Club and Bloomfield Hills Country Club.

"We're thrilled to land someone of Kosta's caliber to work with our student-athletes," said Stark. "He brings considerable experience and passion to the position and will be an outstanding addition to our program."

A Ferris State Professional Golf Management (PGM) program alum, Ramirez earned the 2022 Michigan PGA Player of the Year honor and was the 2022 Michigan PGA Match Play Champion. He also was the Northern Michigan PGA Chapter Player of the Year and Champion this past year. Additionally, he competed in the PGA Professional National Championship in 2022.

Ramirez, who qualified for the US Open Sectionals in 2018, has played competitively in both Michigan and National PGA Tournaments, ranking among the top seven in the Michigan PGA Championship in 2021 and was in the top 10 in the Michigan PGA Assistants Championship in 2017, 2018 and 2020.

Prior to his current appointment, Ramirez served as the PGA Head Golf Professional and lead instructor at the prestigious Treetops Resort in Gaylord from 2021 to 2022 where he led the instruction program to a record-breaking 2022 season while managing a staff of 25 members.

Previously, he was the PGA Assistant at Bloomfield Hills Country Club from 2017 to 2021 and spent multiple seasons as a PGA Assistant at Oakland Hills Country Club from 2012 to 2016 along with serving as a PGA Assistant at Kent Country Club from 2015-16. He also held a variety of internship experiences at courses across the country, including both in California and Michigan.

A Callaway Staff member since 2018, Ramirez was recognized as a West Michigan Top 50 Junior Tour Director in 2016. He has also been a member of the Professional Golf Management Student Association and head of the organization's community service committee. Ramirez has also been active in a number of community events, including serving as coach for the Special Olympics Michigan Area 5 Golf Team and a volunteer with the "Big Event" at Ferris State along with "God's Kitchen".

Ramirez is TPI (TPI) certified, which focuses on building an efficient and effective swing based on the player's physical ability. He also has expertise in TrackMan Launch Monitor and is a certified club fitter.

The Bulldogs have combined for 25 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in the men's and women's golf program history.
