Northern Michigan's Jared Brown scored 1:57 into the overtime period as the Wildcats rallied for a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team this Friday (Jan. 21) evening in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) outing at NMU's Berry Events Center in Marquette, Mich.

Ferris State appeared on its way to victory as senior left wing Mike Fillinger (Grand Ledge) tallied his fifth of the season with 3:46 remaining in regulation to snap a scoreless tie.  However, Ferris State's one-goal lead would be short-lived as Northern Michigan would send the contest into overtime with 1:57 left in the third period on Justin Florek's equalizer via a wrist shot from above the slot.

In the extra session, Jared Brown capitalized on a three-on-two skater advantage with a shot from inside the left circle which sailed past senior goaltender Pat Nagle (Bloomfield) into the Bulldog net.

The series opener was deadlocked into a scoreless struggle for more than two and half periods as both Nagle and NMU goaltender Reid Ellingson each made a number of saves to prevent either team for getting on the scoreboard.

Ferris State would finally break through as Mike Fillinger tapped in the puck from outside the Wildcats' goal crease on a centering pass from junior center Jordie Johnston (Rosetown, Saskatchewan) to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.  Freshman defenseman Scott Czarnowczan (Macomb) would also pick up an assist on Ferris' lone lamplighter as the Bulldogs would claim a 32-24 shots on goal advantage.

Pat Nagle (11-9-4) would compile 22 saves while Reid Ellingson accumulated 31 stops for the Wildcats.

FSU's overall record falls to 11-11-4 and 8-9-3-2 in the CCHA while Northern Michigan improves to 10-11-4 overall and 8-7-2-0 in CCHA play to date.

The weekend CCHA series between the Bulldogs and Wildcats concludes this Saturday (Jan. 22) evening with opening faceoff set for 7:35 p.m. (EST) in Marquette, Mich.
