Big Rapids -- The Ferris State men's ice hockey team entertained the Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks for the first time in two seasons at the Ewigleben Ice Arena, but neither team emerged as a winner as the two squads finished in a 2-2 tie in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) action Friday night.

The Bulldogs got off to an early lead when senior defenseman Sean O'Rourke scored his third goal of the year at 14:44 of the opening period.

Junior defenseman Ryan Lowney was able to keep a puck in the zone on clearing attempt, and found freshman defenseman Zac Tierney driving hard towards the net. Tierney rifled a wrist show on net that O'Rourke deflected home to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

The Nanooks responded at 17:43 when Alec Hajdukovic found a rebound and outwaited Ferris State freshman goaltender Darren Smith before backhanding a shot past a diving Smith to even the contest. Josh Erickson and Zach Frye assisted on the goal.

Freshman forward Corey Mackin gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead 1:36 into the second period on a breakaway, beating Alaska goaltender Jesse Jenks between the legs. Mackin now leads Ferris State with five goals and 13 points on the season.

Sophomore forward Tyler Andrew and Tierney both picked up assists on Mackin's tally.

The Nanooks would not go away as Josh Atkinson scored from Brandon Morley and Nick Hinz to even the score at 2-2 with 11:44 to play in the second period.

Atkinson's goal stood as the game-tying marker, as the contest went through a scoreless third period and overtime. The Bulldogs' record is now 5-5-3 overall on the season, with a 4-4-1 mark in WCHA play.

On the man-advantage, both teams were unsuccessful, as the Nanooks finished 0-for-4 and Ferris State was 0-for-5 on the evening.

Both goaltenders stopped 36 shots for their respective clubs. Smith's record now stands at 4-1-2 on the season, while Jenks moved to 2-0-1.

The Bulldogs will wrap up their two-game homestand against the Nanooks on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7:07 p.m. (EST) inside Ewigleben Ice Arena. Tickets are on sale now at StarTickets.com or call (231) 591-2888 for more information.
