Bulldog Alum Redmond Headed Overseas

Munich, Germany - Eishockey Club München (EHC Munich), also known as Red Bull Munich of the top German Hockey league, the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) has announced the signing of Ferris State Hockey Alum Zach Redmond for the upcoming season.

The Traverse City, Michigan native is one of just 12 former Bulldogs to play in the National Hockey League (NHL) a list that includes Chris Kunitz, Jason Blake, Karpa, Redmond, Gruden, Chad Billins, Rob Collins, Andy Roach, Dean Clark, Greg Rallo, Gerald Mayhew and Michael Colman.

Redmond is one of just eight former Bulldogs to be chosen in the NHL Entry Draft (2008, 7th Round 184th overall by the Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets) and one of just four to be both chosen and play in the NHL.

The right-shot defenseman made his NHL Debut for the Winnipeg Jets in 2012-13. In 133 career NHL games for the Jets, Colorado Avalanche, Montréal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres, Redmond has nine goals and 29 assists for 38 points.

Redmond had a monster 2018-19 campaign with the American Hockey League's (AHL) Rochester Americans with a franchise record 21-goal season, most by a defenseman in a single season in league history, while winning the AHL's Eddie Shore Award for the Best Defenseman, and his third career AHL All-Star Appearance.

Since leaving Ferris State, Redmond has played in 373 AHL games with The Chicago Wolves, St. John's Ice Caps, San Antonio Rampage, and the Americans with 70 goals and 157 assists for 227 points as one of the AHL's top defensemen since 2010, ranking eighth amongst AHL Defensemen in point scoring since the start of the 2010-11 season and second in goals.

Internationally, Redmond dressed in five games in the 2014 World Cup for the United States with one assist.

As a Bulldog, Redmond dressed in 141 contests with 22 goals and 68 assists for 90 points. Redmond was named to the Ferris State Hockey All-Decade Team as the top pairing right defenseman this past season. Redmond was an NCAA first All-Star Team member in 2010-11 and All-American, and second All-Star Team in 2009-10 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).

Redmond played his junior hockey for the Sioux Falls Stampede in the United States Hockey League where he was a Clark Cup Champion in 2006-07 and the Curt Hammer Award winner for Gentleman of the Year in the USHL.

The DEL is on the upswing as both a professional league and developmental feeder to the NHL, having recently produced current highly-touted Detroit Red Wings prospect and last year's first round draft choice Moritz Seider.

Red Bull Munich enjoyed a successful season in 2019-20 with a 31-11-5 record with 108 points, six clear of second place Adler Mannheim.
