Bulldog Hockey Set For 34th Annual Alumni & Friends Golf Outing This Saturday

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University Athletics will welcome alumni, friends and fans at Ferris State Hockey's 34th annual golf outing on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Katke Golf Course.

All golfers planning to take part in the outing are asked to observe established physical and social distancing requirements, including bringing and wearing masks for registration and check-in procedures.

"As an athletic department, our coaches and staff have educated themselves and are very aware of the positive impact that proper physical distancing and the wearing of facial coverings can have in the fight against the spread of the virus," said FSU Athletics Director Perk Weisenburger. "To that end, we have been diligent in our continuing expectation that these best practices remain firmly in place for everyone associated with our athletics programs, including our student-athletes, former players, alumni and most loyal donors."

The outing, which serves as a major fundraiser for the Bulldog Hockey program, has attracted eight consecutive sell-outs coming into August 2020. Ferris State is in the midst a stretch of three consecutive years with a record number of golfers.

"We're so appreciative to all the alumni, fans and Blueline Club members who help support this great event each and every year," said FSU head coach Bob Daniels. "This event has continued to grow and evolve over the years into what has become such an enjoyable weekend of activities. We're looking forward to welcoming everyone again this year." 

Due to COVID-19 considerations, the annual "Little Kevin" charity softball game on Friday evening and the traditional Blueline Club reception will not take place this year.

The Bulldogs, who have reached the NCAA Final Eight three times since 2012, will embark on their 46th campaign this coming fall and again face again one of the country's toughest schedules as they seek their fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last nine years. Since 2012, the Bulldogs have made three NCAA Tournament appearances and advanced to the NCAA Final Eight all three times. FSU has also won two conference regular-season championships along with capturing the WCHA's Broadmoor Trophy once as the league's Final Five Champion. Along with a Frozen Four berth and national title game showing in 2012, FSU also has reached the regional final and the final eight of the NCAA Tournament in both 2014 and 2016.
