Salmenkangas Shines But Huskies Top Bulldogs To Open Winter Carnival

Houghton, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 3-0 on the road to the Michigan Tech Huskies to open the non-conference Winter Carnival Tournament on Friday (Feb. 12) at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

Ferris State junior goaltender Roni Salmenkangas made 37 stops in the loss for the Bulldogs in goal.

Michigan Tech got out to a 1-0 lead at 15:21 of the first period when Jake Crespi gave the Huskies the lead on a shot that deflected past Salmenkangas.

In the second period, the Huskies made it 2-0 when Alec Broetzman fired in a one-timer in the low slot on the power play.

Finally, at 1:47 of the third period, Michigan Tech made it 3-0 when Tommy Parrottino scored identical to Broetzman's goal at even strength to account for the final scoring.

Salmenkangas made several key stops to keep the game tight in each period as he had his best save percenatage game of the season, making 37 stops on 40 shots.

The Huskies held the Bulldogs 0-3 on the power play while the Huskies went 1-3. Blake Pietila made 12 stops in goal for MTU.

The Bulldogs and Huskies continue their battle for the Winter Carnival Championship on Saturday (Feb. 13) at 6:07 p.m. (ET) in the weekend finale.
