Marek, Evennou Earn CCHA Weekly Honors

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State junior defenseman Blake Evennou and freshman forward Bradley Marek earned Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Weekly Honors on Tuesday (Oct. 5).

CCHA Defenseman of the Week - Blake Evennou

Evennou's CCHA Defenseman of the Week honors are his first collegiate weekly award. Evennou was a +1 with an assist for the Bulldogs, which turned out to be the biggest play of the week for Ferris State.

In overtime on a four-on-three penalty kill, Evennou blocked a high-low cross-ice one-time feed that would have resulted in a high percentage scoring chance from the bottom of the left faceoff circle. Evennou deflected a puck directly up the ice that sophomore forward Stepan Pokorny sprinted down the ice and turned into the overtime shorthanded game-winning goal. He blocked three shots and finished second amongst CCHA defensemen in points.

CCHA Rookie of the Week - Bradley Marek

Marek's CCHA Rookie of the Week honors are good for his first collegiate weekly award after his first ever collegiate action. He had five shots on goal, blocked six, won over 50 percent of his face offs and registered a goal and an assist for two points, most amongst CCHA freshmen.

In his collegiate debut on the weekend, playing in his home town, Marek scored what was a go-ahead goal to send the Bulldogs in front of Miami on Sunday (Oct. 3) with 94 seconds remaining on the power play, deflecting Liam MacDougall's power play point shot in. Marek's two points and one power play goal lead all CCHA freshmen. Marek had five shots on goal, and picked up an assist in his first collegiate action, assisting on Sam Skinner's first collegiate goal. Marek played in nearly all situations and blocked several key shots to keep Miami at bay on Sunday in the victory. He helped pace Ferris State to the second most faceoff wins in the CCHA as Ferris State's top face off man.
