Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team began its final weekend of regular-season action with a 3-2 overtime setback to Lake Superior State on Friday (Feb. 24) night inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

The two teams battled to a draw in regulation with the Bulldogs registering several late opportunities for the game-winner before the Lakers earned the win in the extra session.

LSSU got on the board first at 8:40 of the opening period when Harrison Roy scored at even-strength off assists from Louis Boudon and Jacob Bengtsson.

However, Ferris State answered with a power play goal at 16:33 of the middle frame from Caiden Gault with Brendan MacLaren earning the assist.

The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead midway thru the third period when Matt Slick found the back of the net at 10:40, off assists from Nick Nardecchia and Stepan Pokorny.

LSSU, though, earned the equalizer three minutes later when Jake Willets scored at 13:44 to knot the game back up. Connor Milburn and Bryan Huggins picked up the helpers.

In overtime, Willets notched the game-winner at 3:32 off a pass from Louis Boudon to finish the contest.

Ferris State held a 35-29 shots advantage in the game, including an 11-2 margin in the second and a 13-11 advantage in the third. Overall, the Bulldogs went 1-for-4 on the power play with LSSU finishing 1-for-5 on the night.

FSU's Noah Giesbrecht had 26 saves in the game for the Bulldogs while LSSU netminder Ethan Langenegger finished with 33 saves overall in the win.

The two teams will wrap up the regular-season on Saturday (Feb. 25) evening with puck drop set early for 5:07 p.m. (ET). It will be Senior Night with FSU honoring its senior class prior to the game so fans should arrive early.

FSU enters the final game only two points back of fourth place in the CCHA standings.
