Ferris State Hockey Alums Achieving Coaching Success In International & Pro Competition This Month

Big Rapids, Mich. - A trio of Ferris State University hockey alums are continuing to make an impact in the coaching world, helping their respective organizations in postseason and international competition this month.

Former Bulldog Hockey assistant coach and current Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde is presently serving as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men's National Team competing in the 2023 IIHF World Championships. The U.S. squad is currently unbeaten in the competition and concludes the preliminary round on Tuesday (May 23) versus Sweden with the quarterfinals set to begin on Thursday (May 25).

Another former Bulldog, Seth Appert, has led the Rochester Americans, which is the top affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres, to the American Hockey League (AHL) Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 19 years as the club's head coach. The Amerks open the conference finals in the Calder Cup Playoffs against the Hershey Bears on Tuesday.

Finally, former Bulldog standout and pro hockey veteran Greg Rallo, who is an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL, has helped direct the organization to the Western Conference Finals. Milwaukee will open the conference finals on Thursday (May 25) versus the Coachella Valley Firebirds in Palm Springs.

The coaching trio continues a long pipeline of success Ferris State Hockey alums have achieved both as players and coaches at all levels of professional hockey.
