Silich Scores First Career Goal in Two-Point Effort as Bulldogs Fall to Bowling Green
Postgame Highlights
Postgame Interview
Big Rapids, Mich. – Freshman Jack Silich had a strong game for the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team, scoring his first collegiate goal and point as part of a two-point game for the Bulldogs in FSU's 4-3 loss to Bowling Green State University on Friday (Jan. 17) in the Ewigleben Ice Arena.
Ferris State started its first home Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) series of 2025 against the Falcons. It was the first CCHA game in Big Rapids for the Bulldogs since Nov. 23 against Augustana.
The Bulldogs (6-15-2, 5-10-0 CCHA) suffered their fifth consecutive loss after winning four of five games prior to the stretch. FSU is still looking for its first victory in 2025 and is now 0-3 against BGSU this season (2-0 and 5-4 losses at Bowling Green Nov. 1 and 2, respectively).
BGSU (12-7-3, 8-4-3) had a three-goal first period that helped propel them to a victory. Maxwell Martin struck first with an unassisted goal just 2:07 into the game. Ryan O'Hara gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead at 3:26 with assists to Adam Zlnka and Ben Doran.
Ville Immonen capped off a dominant first period for the Falcons with a goal at 18:40. Ethan Scardina and Breck McKinley assisted as BGSU took a 3-0 advantage into intermission.
Ferris State scored the only two goals of period two, starting with Silich's first collegiate goal at 3:21. It was a power play conversion for Silich that cut BGSU's lead to two goals. Trevor Taulien sent a pass across the blue line for Travis Shoudy, who found Silich in the left-wing circle for a one-time shot that beat BGSU netminder Christian Stoever. Shoudy collected his sixth assist and Taulien got his fifth.
Andrew Noel made it a one goal game at 14:51 with his first goal this year. Logan Heroux sent a puck around the boards from center ice that found Cole Burtch below the Falcons' red line. He fired a pass to Noel, who had just jumped onto the ice, and Noel ripped a shot from atop the left-wing circle past Stoever. Heroux picked up his seventh assist and Burtch got his team-leading 10th helper.
Brody Waters put BGSU back up by two goals just 22 seconds into the third. Brett Pfoh and Gustav Stjernberg assisted.
Zach Faremouth scored his second of the season at 6:18. Conner Brown started a rush for the Bulldogs with a pass through center ice to Silich, who took a shot that Stoever saved. Faremouth was there for the rebound and finished the scoring chance, pulling FSU back within a goal. It was Faremouth's fifth career goal against Bowling Green, while Silich got his first career assist and Brown got his second.
Ferris State pulled goaltender Noah West for the extra attacker with 1:14 remaining, but generated only one shot from Shoudy that was blocked by Scardina as BGSU took game one of the weekend series.
Silich finished with his first career multi point effort, assist and goal while registering a team-high eight shots on target. On top of scoring a goal, Noel led the team with three blocked shots. Brown, Farmemouth and Kaleb Ergang each took four shots on goal and Heroux was the lone Bulldog skater to finish better than even on the ice at +1.
West stopped 32-36 shots faced in the defeat with Stoever taking the win in a 39-42 save performance for the Falcons.
As a team, the Bulldogs had 42 shots on goal, second most in a game this year (45 vs Lake Superior State Nov. 15). FSU was 1-6 on the power play and killed all three of Bowling Green's opportunities. The Bulldogs blocked nine shots and won 35 faceoffs with the Falcons blocking eight shots and winning 44 draws. Faremouth led the team with 16 wins and a 61.5% win rate.
The Bulldogs will look for a split as they wrap up the weekend series against Bowling Green Saturday (Jan. 18). Puck drop is scheduled for 6:07 p.m. (ET). The game will be streamed on Midco Sports Plus and the audio version available on Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network.
