Four Men's Tennis Players Named All-GLIAC

Big Rapids, Mich. - Four Ferris State University men's tennis players have received All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) accolades for the 2009-10 season as announced today (April 20) by the league office.

Nine players each were named to the All-GLIAC First and Second Team squads with 10 others landing Honorable Mention status in voting conducted by the league's head coaches. The coaches named Lake Superior State rookie Sergiu Laza the conference's "Freshman of the Year," while Bryan Morrow, head coach of the Wayne State men's tennis team, was tabbed as the "Coach of the Year". Northwood junior Peter Kazianschuetz earned the GLIAC men's tennis "Player of the Year" honor for the third year in a row.

The Bulldogs' four selections included a first team pick in senior Kyle Revall, two second team honorees with sophomore Jack Swan and senior Ahmet Demir along with a honorable mention choice in junior Steven Roberts. Both Demir and Swan claimed All-GLIAC Second Team laurels for the second year in a row.

Revall, who currently ranks 12th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II Midwest Regional Singles Rankings, received All-GLIAC laurels for the first time and presently owns an 8-7 overall record to date this year at the number one singles position.  He posted a 4-3 individual ledger in GLIAC singles matches and has  currently won five of his last eight decisions overall.  In doubles play, Revall teamed with Roberts to also record a 4-3 mark in GLIAC competition and they are 7-11 overall, but have won seven of their last 10 matches as a duo.  The 6-1 Revall maintains a 22-18 career singles mark along with a 19-24 record in doubles play over the course of his two-year Bulldog career to date.

Swan won six of his seven GLIAC singles matches this spring and is 12-7 overall on the year in singles action, including an 11-6 mark in number three flight competition.  He paired with fellow sophomore Justin Hermes to record a 4-3 league doubles mark at the second spot in the lineup and together the duo has netted a 10-9 record this season.  Presently, Swan holds career marks of 31-14 (singles) and 26-18 (doubles) in his two seasons at FSU.

The 5-9 Demir posted a 4-3 record in his final season of GLIAC play and is 8-9 overall this season as the squad's number two singles player.  He's currently listed 14th regionally in singles action and has won six of his last nine showings.  In doubles competition, Demir paired with freshman Arin Enge to win all seven of their league regular-season matches and they are 12-7 overall this season.  To date, Demir is 38-23 (singles) and 31-28 (doubles) in three seasons with the Bulldogs.

Finally, Roberts picked up GLIAC recognition for the first time in his collegiate career.  As the squad's number five singles player, he went 6-1 in GLIAC matches and holds a team-leading 12-4 overall record to date this year in addition to his doubles showing at the number one flight with Revall.  The 2009-10 season represents Roberts' first official action in a Bulldog uniform.

The Bulldogs are currently 12-7 overall this season after placing second in GLIAC regular-season play with a 6-1 conference mark. FSU took third place this past weekend for the second consecutive year at the GLIAC Tournament under third-year head coach Alex Palladino.

Ferris, which is ranked fourth in the Campbell's ITA Midwest Regional Rankings, is expected to receive a berth for the NCAA Division II Tournament. Eight teams from the region will be invited to compete in the regional portion of the tournament on May 6-8 with the official draw slated to be announced in the near future.
