Big Rapids, Mich. - Sophomore Tyler Marengo (Port Huron, Mich./Northern) of Ferris State University has earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Tennis "Athlete of the Week" honors.

Marengo helped the Bulldogs to a league sweep in a three-match homestand this past weekend (March 25-27) against Tiffin, Findlay and Grand Valley State at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.  Marengo posted a perfect 3-0 mark for the weekend at the sixth singles flight and also teamed up with junior Jack Swan (Milwaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) to register a 3-0 record at the second doubles spot.

He clinched the win in a 5-4 victory over rival Grand Valley State on Sunday (March 27) by beating GVSU's Josh Kazdan in the final deciding match by a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 score in a three-setter.  The 5-10 Marengo also posted convincing singles wins against both Tiffin and Findlay with both coming in straight-sets.  Along with Swan, two of his three doubles victories came by 8-2 scores with the third being an 8-3 decision.

This week represents the first time in his career he's claimed the GLIAC's weekly award recognition.

With the three wins over the weekend, the Bulldogs improved to 10-4 overall this season and 4-1 in the GLIAC.

In addition to being a key league match with only three conference regular-season matches remaining for both schools, this past Sunday's victory over Grand Valley State was also a big regional one for the Bulldogs as FSU presently ranks sixth in the Midwest Region and GVSU came in ninth.

Ferris State will hit the road for its final three GLIAC matches next week as the Bulldogs visit league newcomer Ohio Dominican on Friday (April 1) at 3 p.m. (ET) to start the stretch.  Ferris then takes on the league's other first-year school in Lake Erie on Saturday (April 2) at 10 a.m. (ET) followed by a trip to Wayne State the following Tuesday (April 5) for its final conference tilt.
