Three Bulldog Men's Tennis Players Claim All-GLIAC Honors

Big Rapids, Mich. - Three members of the NCAA Tournament-bound Ferris State University men's tennis team claimed All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors for the 2012-13 campaign.

The Bulldogs were one of only two schools along with Northwood to have a pair of first-team all-conference selections in sophomore Laurent Galarneau and junior Sergiu Laza.  The two Canadian-born players were joined by senior Tyler Marengo, who claimed All-GLIAC Third Team recognition.  The awards were announced in conjunction with the 2013 GLIAC Tournament held over the weekend in Midland.

Together, the trio helped the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish at the league tournament last weekend and helped FSU receive an NCAA Tournament berth for the second consecutive year.

This season, Galarneau has compiled a 15-4 overall mark to date thus far at the number one flight in the Bulldogs' lineup.  He also owned a 9-2 league singles record.  In doubles action, he paired with senior Razvan Mag at the top flight to register a 14-5 ledger, which included a 9-2 league mark.

Meanwhile, Laza has posted a 16-2 overall singles record this year at the number two flight in the Bulldog lineup and was unbeaten (11-0) in the GLIAC.  He's recorded a 12-5 doubles record at the number two flight while teaming up with Marengo and teh duo posted a 9-1 record in league action.

Individually, Marengo holds a 12-6 singles mark and posted an 8-3 conference record as the Bulldogs' number three player in the lineup.

Ferris State is seeded fourth in the NCAA's Midwest Region and will square off against fifth-seeded Rockhurst (Mo.) on Saturday (April 27) at 2 p.m. (ET) in Evansville, Ind.  Top-seeded Southern Indiana will host one of two preliminary regional rounds in the Midwest.

The winner of Saturday's regional match between Ferris State and Rockhurst will then face Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Champion Southern Indiana on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. (CT).  Both regional matches will take place at the USI Tennis Courts.

The Ferris State men's team, presently 15-5 overall, will be making its 18th overall NCAA-II Tournament appearance, includinga  second-straight showing.

A year ago, the Bulldogs returned to the field for the first time since 2010 after missing the event in 2011.  Prior to 2011, the Bulldogs had made 13 consecutive trips to the regional tournament.  Ferris has advanced to the NCAA-II "Sweet Sixteen" round nine times overall in its history.
