Three Bulldogs Named All-GLIAC & Galarneau Claims League Player Of Year Award

Big Rapids, Mich. - Three members of the Ferris State University men's tennis team claimed All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors and the Bulldogs' boasted the league's top performer for the 2013-14 campaign in an announcement made by the league office.
The awards were announced in conjunction with the 2014 GLIAC Tournament last weekend in Midland. Bulldog junior Laurent Galarneau (Montreal, Quebec) was tabbed as the league's Player of the Year in voting by coaches and was a first-team all-conference honoree while freshman Laurent Mailloux (Montreal, Quebec) picked up second-team All-GLIAC accolades and senior Otto Keresztes (Windsor, Ontario) attained honorable mention accolades.
This year marks the third consecutive year in which Galarneau has claimed All-GLIAC First Team recognition and he's the first Bulldog men's tennis player to claim the league's Player of the Year honor in the sport since former Bulldog standout Jan Talian received the distinction in 2003 along with being only the second FSU recipient of the award in the last 20 years.
Together, the trio helped the Bulldogs to a tie for second place in the league's regular-season as FSU won eight of its final nine GLIAC matches prior to the postseason tourney.
This season, Galarneau compiled a 16-8 overall mark in singles play at the number one flight in the Bulldogs' lineup while ranking as one of the conference and nation's top performers. He also owned a 10-1 league singles record, marking the second-straight year in which he's won at least nine GLIAc outings. In doubles action, he paired with senior Aaron Dial at the top flight to register a 13-12 ledger, which included a 8-3 league mark.
Meanwhile, Mailloux posted a 14-10 overall singles record this year at the number three flight in the Bulldog lineup and was 8-3 in the GLIAC. He recorded a identical 14-10 doubles record at the number two flight while teaming up with Keresztes and the duo posted a 9-2 record in league action.
Individually, Keresztes held a 12-10 singles mark and posted an 7-3 conference record as the Bulldogs' number four player in the lineup.
The Bulldogs, under second-year head coach Chad Berryhill, finished the 2013-14 campaign with a 10-15 overall record after narrowly missing the NCAA Tournament this season. FSU posted a 8-4 mark after returning from its spring break trip to Ohio, Georgia and Florida, where the Bulldogs took on some of the top teams in the country.
Last weekend, Ferris State topped rival Grand Valley State in the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament before eventually falling to Wayne State on Sunday in the league's third-place match.
Along with Galarneau being named Player of the Year, the league's coaches also tabbed Michigan Tech's Kevin Kalinec as Coach of the Year and Ohio Dominican's Ritchie Kruunenberg as the Freshman of the Year.
A total of nine players were named to both the All-GLIAC first and second teams with eight others receiving honorable mention accolades.
