Ferris State Men's Tennis Battles NCAA D1 Western Michigan In Sunday Setback

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad competed against NCAA Division I Western Michigan on Sunday (Feb. 25), but came out on the short end of a 6-1 decision against the Broncos in Kalamazoo.

The hosts jumped in front early by winning two of the three doubles flights, which counted as a single point towards the team score per NCAA Division I regulations.

In singles play, Western Michigan claimed five of the six positions to earn the triumph.

The Bulldogs picked up their lone point at three singles where Daniil Tarantinov was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Jannik Opitz of WMU.

Additionally, Ferris State got a doubles win from the tandem of Pablo Munoz Baroja and Mathis Guerre at the three spot as they recorded a 6-4 decision. Munoz Baroja also took Western Michigan's Zac Faveri to a third set at six singles before falling 3-6, 6-4, 12-14.

Ferris State, which is ranked 25th nationally in Division II, now owns a 3-2 overall mark to date this year following the setback, which snapped a three-match win streak.

The Bulldogs will visit Southern Indiana on Friday (March 2) for an 11 a.m. (ET) regional tilt in Evansville (Ind.) before then playing five matches over a six-day span during spring break from March 3-8 in Hilton Head, S.C.
