Ferris State Tennis Teams Both Earn Top Seeds For This Weekend's GLIAC Tournament

Big Rapids, Mich. - Both the Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads, which each claimed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular-Season Championship this year, have earned the number one seeds for the league tournament.

The GLIAC Tournament will take place with action starting on Friday (April 23) and running thru Sunday (April 25) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland. Six teams will take part in the men's tournament with eight competing on the women's side.

The Bulldog men have earned a first-round bye as the number one seed and will face either fourth-seeded Purdue Northwest or fifth-seeded Ashland on Saturday (April 24). The match will get underway at 11 a.m. (ET) outside or at 9 a.m. (ET) if played indoors. The winner advances to the championship match on Sunday slated to start at either 11 a.m. (ET) or if indoors at 8:30 a.m.

On the women's side, Ferris State will take on eighth-seeded Saginaw Valley State in the quarterfinal-round starting on Friday (April 23) at 2:30 p.m. (ET) outside or 6 p.m. (ET) if played indoors due to weather. The semifinals are on Saturday at either 2:30 p.m. (outside) or 3 p.m. (inside) with the title match on Sunday starting at 2:30 p.m. (outside) or 1 p.m. (inside).

Spectators will not be permitted to view matches from court level, but viewing will be available in the upper deck areas and masking is required when indoors. A live stream will also be offered for selected courts throughout the tournament.

The winner of each tournament will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Tournament.

The Bulldog women's team, which is currently 13-1 overall and posted a perfect 8-0 mark in GLIAC play, is seeking its first league tournament title since 2002. The men's team, which owns a 13-0 record and was also 8-0 in conference play, will be looking for its fifth tournament title since 2012 after winning the event that year along with three-straight times from 2016-18.

In regular-season play this year, the Ferris State women's team claimed the program's 20th league crown and first conference championship since 2002. Meanwhile, the men's team earned its 19th conference regular-season title and fifth in the last six opportunities after previously winning the championship from 2015-18.
