Ferris State Men's Tennis Pulls Out Hard-Fought Regional Road Win At Tiffin
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad, which is ranked 23rd nationally in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) D2 National Rankings, pulled out a 4-3 regional road win on Friday (Feb. 17) afternoon over the Tiffin Dragons at the Court One Facility in Sandusky, Ohio.
The Bulldogs dropped the doubles point in the contest and fell behind 3-1 before rallying to improve to 5-1 overall this year.
With FSU trailing 3-1 in the contest and a freshman, sophomore and junior on the court, the Bulldogs responded as Esunge Ndumbe posted an impressive straight-set win at six singles and both Benjamin Lortie and Alessandro Santangelo pulled out three-set victories at four and five singles, respectively, to lift Ferris State to the triumph.
"It was a hard-fought win over a much improved Tiffin team," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "Esunge was first to finish once we were down and his energy was contagious to our remaining matches on the court. Alessandro and Ben both won in three sets to clinch the win."
Along with the final three singles wins, FSU's Yannic Alexander Mader was also victorious in three sets at three singles. He also paired up with Erik Kovacs to record a 6-3 decision at three doubles in the match.
The win was FSU's third-straight to date this year and fourth in five matches since the start of the spring campaign.
The Bulldogs will close out their weekend trip to Ohio with another regional road test on Saturday (Feb. 18) at Walsh starting at 4 p.m. (ET). The contest will take place at the North Canton Racquet Club.
