Ferris State Men's Tennis Doubles Squad Advances To ITA Regional Semifinals

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis doubles tandem of Benjamin Lortie and Jan Koupil have advanced to the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Semifinals following a strong weekend of action for the Bulldogs.

FSU opened play in the ITA regional on Saturday in Allendale with action continuing on Sunday. The semifinals and finals of the doubles round are set for Monday.

The pairing of Lortie and Koupil posted an 8-5 win in the quarterfinals on Sunday and will square off against Wayne State's top-seeded Cedric Drenth and Daniel Grey in Monday's semis starting at 10:30 a.m. (ET) on the campus of Grand Valley State. The finals are set for Monday afternoon.

On Saturday, FSU had an outstanding opening day of play as six of the Bulldogs' eight competitors won in the first round of the event with the two lone setbacks coming by 10-8 scores in the third set of action.

Meanwhile, in the men's singles A draw, Lortie won each of his matches to advance to the round of 16. He claimed a win on Sunday over Grey to reach the quarterfinals of singles play before falling in three-set action.

Monday's doubles champions will advance to the ITA Cup Championships slated to be held Oct. 12-16 in Rome, Ga.
