FSU Doubles Tandem Falls In ITA Midwest Regional Semifinals After Strong Weekend Effort

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis doubles tandem of Benjamin Lortie and Jan Koupil reached the semifinals of the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional before falling on Monday (Oct. 2) in Allendale.

The Bulldog senior duo fell to top-seeded and eventual champions Cedric Drenth and Daniel Grey of Wayne State by a score of 8-4 in the semifinals of the annual regional event.

The pairing of Lortie and Koupil had posted an 8-5 win in the quarterfinals on Sunday in the ITA Championships contested on the campus of Grand Valley State.

On Saturday, FSU had an outstanding opening day of play as six of the Bulldogs' eight competitors won in the first round of the event with the two lone setbacks coming by 10-8 scores in the third set of action.

Meanwhile, in the men's singles A draw, Lortie won each of his matches to advance to the round of 16. He claimed a win on Sunday over Grey to reach the quarterfinals of singles play before falling in three-set action.

The Bulldogs are slated to host Grace (Ind.) on Friday, Oct. 13, to close out the fall portion of the schedule.
