Bulldog Tennis Teams Fall In Exhibition Play At NCAA D1 Western Michigan

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis teams opened spring semester action on Wednesday (Jan. 17), falling to NCAA Division 1 Western Michigan in a pair of exhibition matches in Kalamazoo.

The Broncos topped FSU 7-0 in the women's match and came away with a 6-1 triumph over the Bulldogs in the men's contest.

In the women's tilt, Western Michigan captured the second and third doubles flights to grab the initial point in the match. The Broncos then came back in the singles round to win all six flights, but Ferris State forced WMU to the deciding third frame in both the fourth and singles spots in the lineup.

Meanwhile, in the men's contest, Ferris State took the first point of the match by beating WMU in both the first and third doubles positions. The Bulldog tandem of Esunge Ndbumbe and Benjamin Lortie captured a 6-3 win at the top spot with Erik Kovacs and Yannic Mader scoring a 6-1 victory at three doubles. In the men's singles round, Western Michigan claimed all six spots, including a three-set triumph at four singles.

The match took place at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo and represented the first action for the Bulldogs of the spring.

The Bulldog women's team is slated to face another NCAA D1 opponent in Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. (ET) in Ypsilanti. Both teams then return to action with regular-season regional play at Indianapolis on Sunday, Feb. 4, starting at 12 p.m. (ET).
