Bulldog Tennis Teams Earn Regional Road Split In Friday Action At Findlay

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads continued regional action on Friday (Feb. 9), splitting a non-league dual agains the Findlay Oilers in Ohio.

The Bulldog men's squad, which is ranked 18th nationally, beat the Oilers 5-2 overall for their first win of the spring. Meanwhile, the women suffered a 5-2 setback in the tilt.

In the men's victory, Ferris State took the doubles point with wins by Jan Koupil and Alessandro Santangelo at two doubles along with Erik Kovacs and Yannic Alexander Mader at three doubles.

In the singles round, FSU's Benjamin Lortie won a three-set contest at one singles while Esunge Ndumbe was victorious in straight-sets at three singles. The Bulldogs' Santangelo also came away with a win at five singles while Mader earned a decisive 6-0, 6-2 win at six singles.

On the women's side, Findlay grabbed the doubles point and captured four of the six singles matches. FSU's Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer recorded a 6-1, 6-3 decision at two singles and Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer won in three sets at four singles.

Ferris State will return to action with a women's contest against Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday (Feb. 10) at 12 p.m. (ET) in Sandusky, Ohio. The men's team is next in action at home on Sunday (Feb. 11) with an exhibition tilt versus Western University of Canada starting at 3 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.
