Ferris State Men's Tennis Starts Strong In Setback To NCAA D1 Belmont In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team opened its annual spring break trip with a 5-2 setback to NCAA Division I Belmont University on Monday (March 4) in Orlando, Fla.

The Bulldogs jumped in front early by capturing the doubles point before Belmont rallied in singles play to garner the win.

Ferris State's top doubles tandem of Esunge Ndumbe and Benjamin Lortie notched an impressive 6-3 win at the one flight while Erik Kovacs and Yannic Alexander Mader took a 6-4 win at the three doubles position.

In singles action, Belmont captured wins at five of the six spots in the lineup with FSU's lone win coming from Jan Koupil at six singles by a 6-1, 6-4 score.

The Bulldogs dropped to 5-2 overall this year with the setback.

Ferris State continues its trip to Florida on Tuesday (March 5) versus Flagler on the road. The men's match along with the women's tilt have both been moved up to 10 a.m. (ET) starts due to forecasted weather later in the day.
