Ferris State Produces 15 Top-20 Finishes At GVSU Al Owens Classic This Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads combined for 15 top-20 performances this past weekend at the Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale.

The large meet featured competitors from across the region and was held over a two-day span on Friday and Saturday.

On the men's side, Hayden Francisco earned runner-up honors in the javelin (170-0).

Connor Pilmore captured sixth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:57.69) and Gunnar Meyer was seventh in the javelin (157-5).

Roan Fahey came in ninth overall in the men's 5,000 meters (15:31.13). FSU's Brett Allpow placed 10th in the discus (150-4) and Cody Stillwell placed 10th in the hammer throw (168-10).

Francisco came in 17th in the hammer throw (162-2), Matt Crawford placed 19th in the 400 meter hurdles (59.20) and Casey Neal was 20th in the 1,500 meters (4:02.59). The Bulldogs' Ross Miller wound up 20th in the hammer throw (158-5).

FSU also was 18th overall in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:38.10) with a quartet of Crawford, Max Hodges, Chris Triffo and Hunter Redman.

Meanwhile, on the women's side, Rachel Long placed 18th in the hammer throw (134-2) and Maycee Robinson was 20th (133-0) in the event.

Jessica Delaney was 19th overall in the 1,500 meters (4:47.95) and Robinson finished 20th in the discus (122-4).

Ferris State is next slated to take part in the Hillsdale Gina Relays on Thursday and Friday (April 28-29) along with the Aquinas Open on Friday and Saturday (April 29-30) in Grand Rapids.

The Bulldogs will then host the GLIAC Outdoor Championships May 4-6 at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids.
