Ferris State Wins Three Events And Registers 25 Top-10 Meet Efforts At Jim Vargo Invite In Louisville

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads came away with a trio of first-place performances and had a total of 25 top-10 meet finishes at the Jim Vargo Invitational, which took place on Friday and Saturday (April 8-9) in Louisville, Ky.

The event was hosted by Bellarmine University and included student-athletes from multiple schools at all levels across the region such as Davenport, Evansville, Kentucky State, Indianapolis, Southern Indiana, Morehead State, Thomas More, Xavier, Midway, Lawrence Tech, Transylvania, FSU, Bellarmine and others.

In the women's competition, FSU's Brianna Copley won the shot put (44-11.50) while Hanna Brock captured first place on Friday night in the 5,000-meter invite race with a time of 17:55.69.

Ferris State's Claudia Wilkinson earned runner-up honors in the high jump (4-11) and Copley was second in the discus (152-5).

The Bulldogs' Callie Delaney came in third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:11.26) while Emma Stephayn garnered a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw (145-1).

Meanwhile, Danae Feldpausch placed second in the 1,500-meter open (4:48.50) with Brock fourth (4:50.97) and Sydney Kubiak sixth (4:57.14) followed by Daisy Englund in eighth place (4:58.05).

Feldpausch placed seventh in the 800-meter run (2:21.68) with Englund ninth (2:22.43). Kubiak also came in seventh in the Friday portion of the 5,000 meters (18:21.17).

Finally, Stephayn took seventh place in the discus (119-5), Copley was seventh in the hammer throw (131-10) and Hannah Loucks took eighth place in the 10,000-meter run invite with a time of 39:59.10. Wilkinson finished 11th in the 100-meter hurdles (17.46) and Makayla Roberts was 11th in the 400 meters (1:05.06).

In men's action, FSU's Jason Keena won the javelin on Friday night with a throw of 151-0 while Brandon Wirth placed fifth overall in Friday's portion of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking 9:49.93 overall.

The Bulldogs' Noah Griffith finished fourth on Saturday in the 800-meter open (2:00.07) while Ray Lee placed seventh in the 100 meters (11.16).

Ferris State's Dan Hardesty placed fifth overall in the 1,500-meter open race (4:03.61) with junior Donis Harris 10th (4:06.87).

Freshman Nathan Alford came in eighth in the 5,000 meter open run (15:57.26) with Brendan Cairney 10th (16:06.82). Travis Feldpaush was also ninth in the javelin (119-03) on Friday.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 15-16 in Lewisburg, Pa.
