Ferris State Wins Three Events As Track Squads Take Part In Doug Hanson Open

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University Bulldogs returned to the track on Friday (Jan. 20) evening as FSU competed in the annual Doug Hansen Open in University Center.

The indoor track and field event was hosted by Saginaw Valley State and featured student-athletes from a wide range of schools, including Oakland University, Hillsdale, Wayne State, Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State among others.

Overall, Ferris State student-athletes combined to win three events and the Bulldogs totaled 32 top-10 efforts on the day.

The Bulldogs' Taariik Brett won the 60-meter dash (7.04) with Ralph Donaldson coming in fifth (7.11) and David Duvall eighth (7.26). Donaldson also finished seventh in the 200 meters (22.85) with Brett 11th (23.17).

Donis Harris won the 3,000 meters (8:31.67) and placed second overall in the mile run (4:11.72).

FSU's Andrew Shafley placed fifth in the 800 meters (1:59.47), Mason Molek took sixth place in the 60-meter hurdles (9.39) and Josiah Flora was seventh in the 400 meters (53.21). Tristan Lovett came in ninth in the 800 meters (2:01.59).

Ferris State's men's 4x400-meter relay squad of Dan Hardesty, Brandon Wirth, Casey Bouman and Harris came in second (3:37.63). Meanwhile, the tandem of Ethan Hamilton, Lucas Vandam, Lovett and Shafley captured third place (3:39.37) and the group of Tyrese Beedle, Kevin Wilson, Gavin Vansolkema and Flora wound up fifth (3:42.48).

FSU's Duvall placed second in the long jump (6.60m) with Aaron Pierce sixth (6.24m). Flora was the runner-up in the triple jump (11.53m). Also, Kyle Drouillard placed fifth in the weight throw (15.20m) and Jake Zammitta was 10th in the shot put (13.99m).

The Bulldogs' Aabigail Winkle placed second in the 400 meters (59.48) with Makayla Roberts finishing seventh (1:04.27) and Kayla Muth 10th (1:07.16).

In the 800 meters, Nyah Tyron finished sixth (2:21.47) with Daisy England seventh (2:21.63) and Taylor Huntoon 10th (2:28.94).

The Bulldogs had a strong showing in the 3,000 meters with Sydney Kubiak fifth (10:28.24) followed by Hanna Brock in sixth (10:29.27), Whitney Farrell seventh (10:30.50) and Melanea Strauss eighth (10:36.44).

FSU also won the women's 4x400-meter relay as the group of Winkle, Tyron, Englund and Roberts were clocked in 4:09.68 in the race. FSU's second 4x400-meter team of Muth, Huntoon, Becci Castillo and Kennedy Hoose placed fifth (4:35.51).

In the field events, Claudia Wilkinson placed third in the high jump (1.58m). Rebecca Marvin came in ninth in the weight throw (14.47m).

Ferris State will return to action at the Bill Clinger Classic hosted by Grand Valley State on Friday (Jan. 27) in Allendale.
