Ferris State Track Squads Perform Well At Bill Clinger Classic

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field squads competed on Friday (Jan. 27) night, taking part in the Bill Clinger Classic hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale.

The large meet included student-athletes from multiple levels and schools such as FSU, GVSU, Lewis, Indiana Tech, Illinois-Chicago, Hope, Cornerstone, Marquette, Aquinas, Detroit Mercy and more.

The Bulldogs were led by Emma Stephayn, who won the weight throw (52-7.25).

FSU's Abigail Winkle placed sixth in the 400 meters (58.89). Becci Castillo came in eighth in the open mile run (5:26.53). Danae Feldpausch took ninth place in the 800 meters (2:18.92) with Daisy Englund 12th (2:21.06). 

Meanwhile, Whitney Farrell placed 11th in the one mile invite run (5:12.90) with Hanna Brock 12th (5:13.65) and Sydney Kubiak 13th (5:13.81).

Also, Melanea Strauss finished ninth in the open division of the 3,000 meters (10:50.09). Brock was 15th in the invite section of the race (10:51.62) and Kubiak 16th (10:51.79). FSU's Jessica Durkee came in 11th in the 5,000 meters (19:45.29) with Claudia Baryo 12th (19:49.41) and Diana Candela 13th (19:49.50).

FSU's women's 4x400-meter relay squad of Winkle, Feldpausch, Englund and Makayla Roberts wound up sixth (4:08.52).

On the men's side, Donis Harris came in ninth overall in the mile run invite section (4:11.32) and was also ninth in the invite section of the 3,000 meters (8:28.97). Brendan Cairney took eighth place in the 5,000 meters (15:34.05).

Dan Hardesty placed 13th in the open mile run (4:24.52) with Noah Griffith 16th (4:25.25). FSU's Casey Bouman was 14th in the 5,000 meters (15:54.35). FSU's Brandon Wirth finished 17th in the 3,000-meter run open race (8:58.73).

In the field events, Jake Zammitta was sixth in the shot put invite section (45-7.75) with Bryce George seventh (45-6.50). Garrett Jones finished seventh in the shot put open section (41-5.75). Kyle Drouillard finished eighth in the weight throw invite field (48-7.25) and Aaron Pierce took 10th place overall in the long jump (20-3.75).

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Feb. 10 back in Allendale at the Grand Valley State Big Meet.
