Bulldog Track Squads Kick Off Action At SVSU Doug Hansen Open

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field squads kicked off action on Friday (Jan. 19), competing at the Doug Hansen Open hosted by Saginaw Valley State in University Center.

FSU's Ignatius Jackson won the men's 60 meters in a time of 6.99 while Bryson Fronta placed fifth (7.13). Fronta was also third in the 200 meters (22.82) while Blaine Rogers finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.84).

The Bulldogs' Cooper Sorsen was second in the men's 3,000 meters (8:41.23) and Dean Topolski took fifth place in the 400 meters (51.29). Levi Tuinstra recorded a second-place finish in the high jump (5-10).

Meanwhile, Devin Dennison placed third in the weight throw (47-7) and Ben Dousuah notched a fourth-place performance in the shot put (44-0.50).

FSU's Danae Feldpausch won the women's 800 meters (2:19.29) and Ella Kowatch was the runner-up (2:25.02). Kayla Muth placed fourth in the same race (2:31.36). Claudia Wilkinson was the winner in the high jump (5-4.25).

Ferris State's Ana Fortier was the runner-up in the women's 200 meters (27.38) while Lacey Zimmerman came in fourth (27.73). Abigail Winkle placed second in the 400 meters (58.01) and Nyah Tyron finished fifth (1:01.61).

The Bulldogs' Hanna Brock finished second in the 3,000 meters (10:51.17) and wound up sixth in the women's mile run (5:13.92). Becci Castillo was third in the 3K (10:52.62) followed by Whitney Farrell in fourth place (11:05.32) and Melanea Strauss in fifth (11:07.77).

FSU also had a strong performance in the throws with Rebecca Marvin emerging as the winner in the weight throw (46-5.25). She was third in the shot put (36-4.75) and Eva Watkins took fifth place in the weight throw (41-7).

The Bulldogs were also second overall in both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays with times of 3:33.60 and 4:06.17, respectively.

Ferris State is slated to return to action on Friday, Jan. 26, at the Bill Clinger Classic hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale.
