Ferris State Track Squads Combine For 21 Top-10 Performances At Jet's Pizza Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads finished with strong results as both teams took part in the annual Jet's Pizza Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) in University Center.

FSU finished the two-day meet with a school record, a NCAA qualifying time, two individual championships and a total of 21 top-10 meet finishes. In addition, Bulldog student-athletes had four performacnes rank among the top 10 all-time in school history in their resepective events.

The Bulldogs' Hanna Brock won the 5,000 meters (17:47.3) and earned runner-up honors in the mile run (5:00.89). Whitney Farrell was second in the 5,000 meters (17:47.81) and Abigail Winkle placed third in the 400 meters (58.60).

Farrell notched the eighth-fastest 5K time in school history while Winkle's 25.79 clocking in the 200 meters also ranks eighth and Brock's mile-run performance is now 10th on the all-time chart.

FSU's Rebecca Marvin was the runner-up in the weight throw (49-6.5), Maddy Biller came in fourth in the shot put (38-7.75) and Alexis Le was sixth in the high jump (4-11.75). Biller was also eighth in the weight throw (44-3.5) and Marvin was 10th in the shot put (37-1).

Daisy Englund took ninth place in the 800 meters (2:19.56) and Farrell was 10th in the mile (5:06.67) while Emily Plouff came in 12th in the 3,000 meters (10:43.62).

Ferris State's distance medley relay squad of Englund, Winkle, Taylor Huntoon and Ella Kowatch placed third (12:41.44).

In the men's competition, the Bulldogs' Cooper Sorsen won the 3,000 meters with a national qualifying and school-record time of 8:13.95 in the race.

Hayden Josef placed third in the high jump (6-2.75) while Jaylin Townsend was fourth in the 60 meters (6.85) and ninth in the 200 meters (22.02). Devin Dennison finished sixth in the weight throw (55-2.25).

Jared Watchorn was ninth in the 800 meters (1:57.18), Hunter Richardson came in ninth in the shot put (47-7) and Gavin Vansolkema took 10th place in the mile (4:19.90).

FSU's men's distance medley group of Vansolkema, Lucas Vandam, Watchorn and Zak Kimmel placed third (10:27.77).

Ferris State will next compete at the Grand Valley State Big Meet on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15, in Allendale.
