
Bulldog Track Squads Combine For 35 Top-Eight Finishes At SVSU Tune-Up
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads geared up for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships by taking part in the Saginaw Valley State Tune-Up Meet on Friday (Feb. 21) evening in University Center.
The Bulldog men's and women's teams combined to notch a total of 35 top-eight finishes in the regional event.
FSU's Abigail Winkle placed second in the 200 meters (25.46) and Lacey Zimmerman was sixth (26.11) in the race. Ana Fortier took seventh in the women's 60 meters (8.11).
In the 800 meters, Daisy Englund came in fourth (2:17.27) with Ella Kowatch fifth (2:20.67) followed by Taylor Huntoon in seventh (2:21.81) and Abby Griffith in eighth place (2:22.83).
Ferris State's Whitney Farrell finished fourth in the mile (5:04.99) and Hanna Brock was fifth (5:06.55) in the race. Meanwhile, Jessica Durkee came in third in the 3,000 meters (10:45.43) while Emily Plouff was seventh (11:06.69) and Tessa Wohlschlegel wound up eighth (11:09.17).
The Bulldogs' Alexis Le was third in the high jump (4-10.25) and Angela Kotecki was fifth in the long jump (16-5). Maddy Biller placed fifth in the shot put (38-5) while Rebecca Marvin finished eighth (36-5.5). Marvin was also fourth in the weight throw (50-0.75) and Biller came in fifth (45-4.5).
In the men's competition, Charlie Sutton came in third in the 200 meters (22.34) with Bryson Fronta fifth (22.51). Owen Behrenwald placed fifth in the 60 meters (7.01) and Luke Berney was fifth in the 400 meters (50.74). Blaine Rogers was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.54).
FSU's Jared Watchorn took sixth place in the 800 meters (1:55.58) and Zak Kimmel was sixth in the mile (4:18.78) followed by Gavin Vansolkema in eighth place (4:23.84). Josh Oom finished fourth in the 3,000 meters (8:57.60) with Blake Ferguson seventh (9:03.40).
The Bulldogs' Cooper Sorsen claimed first place in the 5,000 meters (14:39.48) with teammate Ben Knuth third (15:28.49) and Aaron Bowerman fourth (15:29.51).
In the field events, Hayden Josef placed third in the high jump (6-2) and David Duvall was third in the long jump (20-5). Devin Dennison was the runner-up in the weight throw (58-8).
The Bulldogs are next slated to head back to University Center for the 2025 GLIAC Indoor Championships slated for Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2.
