Kayle Stevenson Named To Daktronics Midwest Region Softball Team

Senior pitcher Kayle Stevenson (Holland/West Ottawa) of the Ferris State University softball team has been chosen as a 2010 Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Softball Second-Team selection in a release issued this Wednesday (May 19).

The all-region and All-America teams are sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at all levels of competition.

The Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Region is comprised of a first and second team with 13 student-athletes per squad. Wayne State's Casey Hanes achieved Daktronics Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year honors and her teammate Alison Allen was chosen as the Daktronics Midwest Region Player of the Year.  Voting was conducted by the region's sports information directors.

Stevenson, who was one of three pitchers to earn second-team plaudits, posted a 12-6 pitching record and a 1.98 earned run average in 124.0 innings this season.  The two-time (2009 and 2010) All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) performer pitched five shutouts, 16 complete games, fanned 84 batters, and limited the opposition to a .204 batting average.  A starter in all of her 20 appearances this spring, Stevenson allowed 35 earned runs and issued 58 bases on balls. 

The Ferris State southpaw fanned at least five or more hitters in a contest on nine occasions this campaign, which included a season-high nine batters in a complete-game one-hit pitching performance at Hillsdale (April 11).  She was tabbed the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week on one occasion (April 26) this season.

Among the NCAA Division II statistical leaders, Stevenson presently ranks 40th in hits allowed per seven innings (5.19), 54th in shutouts (5.0), 73rd in earned run average (1.98), 161st victories (12.0), 191st in strikeouts per seven innings (4.7), 191st in strikeouts per seven innings (4.7), 244th in strikeouts (84.0), and 294th in walks allowed per seven innings (3.27).

Stevenson concluded her three-year career at Ferris State with a 27-8 pitching record and ranked among the program's all-time leaders in several pitching categories.  She currently is listed first in best winning percentage (.771), eighth in earned run average (1.54), tied for eighth in shutouts (eight), 10th in strikeouts (188), tied for 11th in appearances (55), 12th in victories (27) and starts (44), 14th in innings pitched (263.0), and 15th in complete games (27).

The Bulldogs concluded the 2010 season with a 26-16 overall record, which included a 17-9 conference mark.
