Ferris State Places Two On 2011 Daktronics All-Midwest Region Teams

Two members of the Ferris State University softball team have earned a spot on the 2011 Daktronics, Inc., All-Midwest Region Softball Team as junior first baseman Chelsea Morris (Jenison) and junior outfielder Stephanie Dusendang (Comstock Park/Rockford) have been named to the first and second team, respectively.

Morris, the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Year, will now appear on the national ballot for All-America consideration as a result of her first-team selection.  The appearance on the Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Region Teams marks the first for both Morris and Dusendang.

The 2011 Daktronics, Inc. All-America Teams will be announced Wednesday, May 25 prior to the 2011 NCAA Division II Softball Championships (May 26-30) in Salem, Va.  The all-region and All-America teams are sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at all levels of competition.

The 2011 Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Region is features both a first and second team with 14 student-athletes apiece on each squad.  Grand Valley State's Katie Martin was selected the Midwest Region Player of the Year while Torie Bunzell of Quincy claimed Pitcher of the Year recognition. 

A 2011 All-GLIAC First-Team pick, Morris batted a career-high .331 while registering a team-best tying 51 base hits in 154 at bats as a starter in all 47 FSU contests.  Morris also paced the Bulldogs this season in RBIs (46) and doubles (13) while her nine home runs tied for top team honors.  She produced a career season-best .604 slugging percentage and notched a .371 on-base percentage this spring.  Morris also generated 17 multiple-hit games and 12 multi-RBI contests, which represented both career and single-season highs.  Morris, who hit safely in 29 outings this campaign, presently ranks 53rd among the national statistical leaders in RBIs per game (0.98), 132nd in doubles per game (0.28), tied for 141st in home runs (9.0), and 150th in home runs per game (0.19).

In 97 contests to date during her three-year (2009-11) career, Morris presently ranks tied for 10th place in home runs (nine), 18th in batting average (.297), 25th in RBIs (62), and tied for 27th in doubles (18) among Ferris State's all-time leaders.  

Dusendang, a 2011 second-team All-GLIAC honoree, established career season highs this campaign in batting average (.328), hits (45), doubles (11), home runs (two), triples (one), RBIs (25), runs scored (30), stolen bases (two), and putouts (64) while starting in all 47 encounters.  Dusendang, who chalked up a team third-most 13 multiple-hit games and also had five multi-RBI outings in 2011, recorded at least a hit in 31 contests this spring.  She compiled a career-best .467 slugging percentage and a .382 on-base percentage this season.

Dusendang is currently batting .302 for her career with 58 hits in 192 at bats for 90 contests.  She has racked up 29 RBIs with 11 doubles, two home runs, one triple, and 41 runs scored with 71 putouts.

Ferris State posted a 24-23 overall record for the 2011 season, which included an 18-12 GLIAC North Division mark.
