Ferris State Places Four On All-GLIAC Teams

Ferris State University now boasts the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Year as junior first baseman Chelsea Morris (Jenison) received the lofty recognition as part of the 2011 All-GLIAC teams which were released this Friday (May 6) afternoon during the league's annual tournament.

Morris was also one of four Bulldogs to attain all-conference laurels by earning first-team plaudits in voting conducted by the conference's head coaches.  Junior outfielder Stephanie Dusendang (Comstock Park/Rockford) claimed second-team honors while sophomore designated player Lindsey Pettit (Portland) and senior shortstop Lynsay Weaver (Bay City/All Saints) garnered honorable mention accolades.

A member first, second, and honorable mention team comprised of 48 student-athletes was selected.  Thirteen student-athletes received first-team honors while 11 others garnered second-team plaudits.  A total of 24 players were named to the honorable mention squad. 

The 2011 GLIAC Pitcher of the Year was bestowed upon Saginaw Valley State's Jade Fulton while Grand Valley State's Miranda Cleary was chosen as the GLIAC's Freshman of the Year. Tiffin head coach Jeff Nickerson earned the "Michael J. Corbett" GLIAC Coach of the Year Award.

Chelsea Morris presently leads the Bulldogs this season in base hits (51), doubles (13), home runs (nine), RBIs (46) to go along with a .646 slugging percentage and a .395 on-base percentage as a starter in all of the team's 44 contests.  She has accumulated squad bests in both multiple-hit games (17) and multi-RBI outings (12) this campaign.  Morris hit .392 in GLIAC play with 40 hits, which included nine doubles and home runs apiece, and 37 RBIs.

Stephanie Dusendang is batting a career-best .328 average on 42 base hits while compiling 23 RBIs as a 44-game starter.  Lindsey Pettit has recorded a team-leading .365 average at the plate, which features eight home runs and 24 RBIs, while Lynsay Weaver has posted a .312 batting average as a result of 39 hits in 44 encounters.
