Bulldogs Fall To Rival Grand Valley State In Conference Home Doubleheader

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad dropped a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home contests to rival Grand Valley State on Thursday (April 21), falling 5-0 and 8-4 at the FSU Softball Field.

The the second doubleheader of the year against the Lakers, the Bulldogs were limited to only two hits in the opener in falling 5-0. Grand Valley State produced the first runs with three in the fourth and added single runs in both the fifth and the seventh to garner the win, totaling nine hits overall.

First baseman Evelyn Blood and second baseman Josie Prince had the lone hits for FSU as GVSU's Hannah Beatus picked up her 15th win of the year by striking out 10 and walking six in seven full innings of action in the pitching circle.

For the Bulldogs, the trio of Kristina Baar, Kristie Gray and Aryn Gallacher combined to give up five runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

In game two, Ferris State started the scoring with two runs in the second as freshman outfielder Maddie Gkekas belted a two-run double to left field. GVSU cut the lead in half with a run in the third and the 2-1 score held up until the Lakers produced six runs in the sixth to take control. They added a single run in the seventh with the Bulldogs getting a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning before the Lakers recorded the third out. GVSU had 11 hits with FSU managing six in the nightcap.

Both Blood and designated player Kaitlyn Orme totaled two hits apiece for the Bulldogs. Blood joined Gkekas with a double. In addition to the two RBI's from Gkekas, both Price and Orme also drove in a run.

The trio of Baar, Gray and Gallacher again combined to pitch the second game and allowed eight runs on 11 hits with four walks and two K's. GVSU's Genesis Eggart picked up the win, giving up four runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts in going the distance.

The Bulldogs, who wrapped up a 10-game homestand, now hit the road to face Purdue Northwest on Saturday (April 23) and Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday (April 24) in a pair of conference road doubleheaders.
