Bulldog Softball Earns Doubleheader Sweep At Wayne State In League Opening Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action with an impressive sweep over Wayne State on Sunday (March 26) in Detroit.

The Bulldogs earned a 4-3 win in the opener over the Warriors before pulling out a 4-1 triumph in game two to complete the sweep in the first league action of the year.

In the opener, Ferris Tate fell behind 3-0, but rallied with two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to garner the triumph. FSU finished with seven hits to six for the Warriors.

The Bulldogs were led at the dish by designated player Kaitlyn Orme and first baseman Evelyn Blood with two hits apiece. Senior Kylie Winkels added a sacrifice hit and FSU also stole three bases in the win.

FSU's Catherine O'Donohue tossed four and one-thirds innings of action, allowing only a single earned run on six hits with a strikeout. Aubrie Lafferty earned the win, tossing two and two-thirds innings of scoreless work and not giving up a hit.

In game two, the Bulldogs jumped in front 3-0 after the top half of the third inning and allowed WSU a single run in the bottom of the third while earning it back in the fifth to account for the final 4-1 margin. Both teams finished with eight hits.

Winkles and Orme paced FSU with two hits each in game two while Jadyn Joseph drove in three runs. The Bulldogs got doubles from Joseph, Winkels and second baseman Josie Prince in the victory while Joseph also had a sacrifice fly.

In the circle, Ferris State's Kristie Gray hurled three innings of action, allowing a single earned run on three hits with a strikeout. Aryn Gallacher earned the win, tossing four innings of scoreless work and giving up only five hits with two strikeouts.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday (March 27) at Saginaw Valley State with game one set to begin at 1 p.m. (ET) followed by game two at 3 p.m. (ET).
